Heydar Aliyev International Airport is the main air gate of the Republic of Azerbaijan and meets all international standards.

Airport is located in Baku, the capital and largest city of Azerbaijan. The city of Baku is close to major petroleum fields near the border with Iran. The airport is approximately 25 kilometers east from downtown Baku with a traveling time of approximately 40 minutes.

The project to renovate Heydar Aliyev International Airport formerly known as Bina International Airport, started at the beginning of 1998 and was completed in June 1999. The international flights building comprises four modules which operate as two terminals - North and South. The separate terminal is used for domestic passengers and cargo.

The airport is fitted with up-to-date facilities and equipment (escalator, hydraulic lift, passenger and freight elevators, air bridges, baggage handling system with two departure and arrival lines (conveyors), screening monitors, computerized reservation system, air-conditioning system (ventilation and heating).

Two paved runways and three taxiways fit out the aerodrome at Heydar Aliyev International Airport. Paved Runway-1 has the following parameters: magnetic course is 335-155, length - 2700 m. and width - 60 m., and paved Runway-2 with magnetic course 335-175 has a length of 3200 m. and width of 45 m. The surface of runway is bituminous concrete (soft).

The paved runways are ready to receive A, B, C, D, E category aircrafts and helicopters of all types under meteorological minimum established by ICAO.

The lighting equipment is installed at the aerodrome: High Intensity Lights for Paved Runway -1 and Low Intensity Lights for Paved Runway -2.

Airport apron comprises 63 parking places for long haul and average haul aircrafts, 4 of them equipped with air bridges.

The special emergency rescue team provides 24 hours service. The team includes MI-8 helicopter to operate emergency flights; high flotation vehicle equipped with USB and SW station; motor-car lift crane with 40 tones lifting capacity, BELAZ towing tractor; iron skis; hydraulic elevators, safe blocks, and standard tows fitting all types of aircraft based at the aerodrome.
